BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN (2005)

In 1963, two young cowboys who are hired to take care of some sheep way off in the wilderness of Wyoming for a few months. They fall in love and then spend the next 20+ years living a lie. Both get married and have kids, but their hearts belong to each other and their entire existence revolves around the infrequent visits where they can be together.

I didn't really know what to expect when I sat down to watch it, but I very quickly realized that this film was going to be life-changingly incredible. When Heath Ledger says "Jack, I swear..." all I could think about was how we're only blessed with one trip around this racetrack and it's so heartbreaking that so many people spend all of those precious hours spreading hate.

I cannot recommend BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN enough. The direction by Ang Lee is masterful (it's very easy to see why he won the Academy Award for Best Direction), extremely moving story, beautiful scenery and the performances by every one (especially Heath Ledger) are amazing. My only complaint is the film just isn't long enough! It could have easily been an hour longer and delved into the characters a little deeper. As it is BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN is a masterpiece. Highly, highly recommended.
