REFORM SCHOOL GIRLS (1986)

REFORM SCHOOL GIRLS starts out with some fresh prisoners entering Pridemore Juvenile Facility. They're stripped, showered and searched before joining the general population, which apparently is just a single large room full of girls. One of the new girls is seen as pure and therefore wanted the bad girl dyke gang. Added to this dire situation is the evil warden (Sybil Danning, who has very little screen time and never even gets close to naked) and her second-in-command, Edna, who deals with the girls on a more day-to-day basis. The usual shit-talking, hair-pulling and fighting takes place, but I just couldn't get into it. Even the fair amount of nudity didn't help.

When I was a kid back in the 1980's REFORM SCHOOL GIRLS was legendary (to me at least) thanks to that awesome VHS box I kept sneaking sneaky peeks at at my local video store. But, when I finally got around to actually watching it, the whole thing was pretty disappointing and nowhere near as awesome as the story I had created in my brain.

Disappointing or not, RSG is still worth watching though simply for its cult status. One thing that I like to daydream about is if, back in the early 1980’s, if there could have been a women in prison film staring Divine. I don’t even care what role she had, the evil matron or the innocent girl, whatever. She would have been amazing! Maybe even have her play both!
